A ‘racket’ has two main connotations. The first is of racket, or racquet, sports including tennis, ping pong and badminton. These games can seem dance-like, with a sort of rapport between the players creating constant reactionary movement as they play against and off each other. This is reflected in the counterpoint and duet match-ups throughout the piece. The second connotation is the creation of loud noise, which the music builds to in the middle. This is all dovetailed similarly to a racket sports match, with a warm up and warm down.
